About the Journal

HURMAH: Islamic Journal of Human Rights is a scientific publication published by the Tanmiyatul Afkar Education Foundation (YASPITA). This journal is published three times a year (January, May, and September), and is professionally managed by the Research and Publication Institute under the auspices of YASPITA. The name "Ḥurmah" derives from a fundamental concept in Islamic law that signifies sacredness and inviolability. This concept refers to the fundamental protection of life, honor, property, belief, and human integrity. In this perspective, human rights are not merely legal claims but sacred domains that are forbidden to violate because human dignity originates with God.

The focus and scope of this journal encompass interdisciplinary research on human rights through an Islamic lens, emphasizing the integration of Sharia principles with universal human rights frameworks. The scope of research includes, but is not limited to, Theological and Philosophical Studies of Human Rights in Islam (Maqasid al-Shariah & Hurmah), Islamic Family Law and the Protection of Women & Children, Freedom of Religion and Belief in Muslim Contexts, and Social and Economic Justice from an Islamic Perspective. In addition, this journal also accepts studies on Minorities and Vulnerable Groups in Muslim Societies, Bioethics and Public Health Issues in Islam, the Right to Development and the Environment, and Comparative Studies between Islamic Law and International Human Rights Law.

The aim is to become the primary forum for in-depth, authentic academic discussion of human rights rooted in Islamic values, bridging traditional and contemporary discourses to realize justice and the universal protection of human dignity.
